Why do Seniors Play Pickleball?
The rise of pickleball amongst the senior community may be perplexing to some. The lite version of tennis has now been the fastest-growing sport for the past 5 years, surpassing even biking as one of the most popular recreational activities. Even since I’ve been hosting pickleball clinics, I’ve been wondering the reasons these seniors seem so attached to this sport. I recently went and interviewed some of these seniors, asking them the reasons they play pickleball:
Paul Talbot
“For me Pickleball is a chance to get to know more people, a chance to stay active. I don’t know a lot of people anymore, so it’s good to have a bigger network of people.”
Kristine Neville
“Pickleball’s been on my bucket list, and I want to diversify what I do to excersize. The minute you start to be sedentary, you lose it.”
Anna Briseno
“Pickleball has given me so much confidence, I didn’t realize I was lacking that so much”
Marci Bowers
“It’s like Pickleball is it’s own sport with new techniques. It’s definitely taught me some humility.”
Jeff Roberts
“It’s a way to push myself even harder through friendly competition”
Kelly Tuxhorn
“I play Pickleball because It’s very importan for me to stay active”
